SCCA Atlanta Regionals at Road Atlanta: Day 2 Part 3, The Renault

As with any good photographs, there’s a story behind The Renault. Before Sunday’s PRO-IT race, I was in the back of the course around Turns 6-7, when a minivan drove up. A family emerged, and a blank posterboard was removed from the back. Laying it down on the ground, a young lady began to sketch out the words “Go Unka John” and filling them in with a black marker.

“You’re obviously here for a particular reason,” I asked.

“Yeah, my uncle’s driving one of the cars,” she answered.

“Which one?”

“A Renault.”

I had seen the Renault back in the paddock, as well as during Saturday’s practice sessions. I reacted much as I did to the Volvo: “A Renault? Racing? I’ve gotta see this.”

Well, I started talking a bit to her father and asked if I could take a few photos of them supporting their driver. He said sure, and I offered to send him my photos of the Renault after the race was over. Most of them are boring shots of the car that will not be repeated here (well, except for one) but a few of the photos that I took of them came out pretty well.

Almost Forgot…

…can you guess what’s wrong with the following picture?

If you guessed that it’s that the driver is a woman, good eyes, but you guessed wrong!

That’s right folks, I think I’m the first one to get spy photos of the brand new Toyota Camalon! Autoweek can call me any time now.

SCCA Atlanta Regionals at Road Atlanta: Preview

I’m going to bed as soon as OLN finishes up tonight’s Tour recap, but I’ve gotten a couple of pictures from today’s SCCA races ready to go. More images from today and tomorrow will be coming in the near future.

Attack of the Bobke!

Bob Roll, in response to a question about what to do after he is off the air at the end of the Tour:

“You can Tivo it—whatever that is…I always thought Tivo was a type of sandal.”

Rollism of the Day

“…those Basque lunatics…”

Nothing particularly special about the quote, other than that someone needed to say it.

My sister…

kicks ass. Actually, she does the voice of the ass-kicking character’s mother, but I was speaking in the abstract.

Redesign Continues, and Killer Monsters

Well, it’s coming along with the redesign. I took the photo in the background earlier today when I got home from work. If I had had more time (pesky clouds kept moving) I’d have gotten the polarizer on there and maybe been able to expose it a little better (was shooting at minimum aperature and shutter speed and still overexposed) but I like the way it turned out anyways.

Meanwhile, enjoy this killer monster.

In the Words of Bob Roll:

“Crosswinds blow apart the Tour; they always come from the side.” Thanks, Bobke!
